Moved At Last

Greetings from a weary traveler. April 26th my bride and I began the trek from our home of 17 years in Virginia to Lakewood Colorado. The Highlander groaned a bit at the weight of a 14' box trailer filled primarily with my treasured Shopsmith tools. We did bring along a number of household items we would need while awaiting the arrival of 3 PODS containing our worldly treasures. We closed on our new (40 year old home) in a community known as Lockwood on April 30. We completed unloading the last POD yesterday. Now finding places to put away our treasures is another matter. It may be weeks before I am able to make my shop useful. In fact I may need to double the size of the garage in order to create sufficient space. The good news being we are enjoying the company of our daughter and granddaughter. Our son just left after a four day visit from Tulsa. Oddly enough the former homeowners are very friendly folks. The fellow recently inherited an E or ER model Shopsmith. He has asked if I would be willing to give him a demo of its features. It seems I will get to play with one of the originals. Now I must get beck to unpacking. FJIMP

Glad to hear you and your wife made the move safely. My daughter leaves Charlottesville this month after completing four years at the University. You guys will all have that last winter to remember for a long time to come. Though Colorado could offer some competition. Good luck with the new shop!

I am so glad to hear that you have finally been able to make this long wanted move and that it has been done safely. I also envy you for having the task of rebuilding your shop. You now have the opportunity to correct all of those little nagging inefficiencies of the old shop.

I see two things that must be done rather soon. One would be to set up a suitable workbench area. This may be temporary but you need a work bench.

The other is to unpack, set up and align one of the Mark Vs. Once these two tasks are done, you are ready and able to take on the rest of the house.

Oh yah. Locate an outlet for building supplies and tools.

Good luck Jim. Take on these new tasks and all those that I have not thought about in a safe and sane manner. Doing so will allow you to soon be ready to make sawdust in your new location.

Congratulations on your move. Five years ago we moved to Gainesville to be closer to our son and daughter. Boy! It's a lot of work, and getting "reorganized" takes more time than you think.

I have two nephews in Denver. Last year I gave them a 510 with bandsaw and jointer. Now if they need to have something fixed I'll know where to send them.

congratulations on the move (and my regrets that I never managed to visit your shop while you were still here in VA).

that is a beautiful part of the country and the micro-brews are most excellent. just make sure that you stay away from the prairie dogs and giardia.

if you have not done so already, you might want to check out the Greeley 4th of July celebration.

I hope your daughters move is as smooth as ours was. My congratulations on her completion of her studies.

Would you believe I sold the snow blower to a Virginia neighbor?! This way I get a shiny new one in the fall. Unless of course the new shop costs too much. In that event I get to stay home and play in my shop until either the snow melts or spring comes. Jim

I also would have enjoyed meeting up with you. My old shop was larger than the current space allocated for shop. I got most of it in, now I need to figure out how to arrange it so I can work a bit. The mention of the Greeley Stampede brings back many memories. Keep the woodwrkers in VA in line. Jim
