Positive Resources!

Post by flashbacpt »

I wanted to take a moment to express my appreciation for all the positive resources available to all of us from this forum, website, and from the ShopSmith Company.
Yesterday afternoon, I went about setting up my ShopSmith to turn some pens and to my dismay, discovered that my quill was very hard, almost impossible, to extend, and retract.
This situation tossed me for a loop! Simply because I make a conscious effort to clean, and lube my ShopSmith very frequently. After checking everything, I could not determine what the problem was, and was getting worried that my quill spring had broken, that I would be down for several days, etc. I only knew that two days ago, my quill was working properly. This came out of no where!
It was time to ponder the situation more, and come up with a plan of action.
My plan was simple.......check this forum (threads) for information on similar problems, from there pull out the Rick Davis and Nick Engler DVD's for more information, and the "How to do it!"
With the information from all of the above, I proceeded to remove all the related parts, ie.....quill, quill spring, etc. and clean/wax everything that I could and put everything back together.
Once back together, my quill now works like it should! What was wrong? The only thing that I can say is that I removed a little grime/dirt, here and there, from parts that can only be reached/serviced from disassembly, and not from the normal cleaning and lube procedures.
The bottom line is that without this forum, members such as Bill Mayo and Dusty to name a couple, and the other "resources", I would have been stuck!
Once again,......name another Company that sticks by their product, in more ways than one!:D

Positive Resources

You are absolutely correct. This forum is an invaluable asset to all of the members who use it. Just as you have done, I too refer to the recommendations and solutions that are so frequently posted here. It is very, very seldom that they do not resolve my problem.

We need to be ever mindful that this site continues to be maintained by Shopsmith and no cost to the users, even during these difficult financial times.

Not only do I benefit from the technical nature of the site (as it applies to the Shopsmith) but also from the entertainment aspect. I spend a lot of time here because I, for one reason or another, am unable to spend time making sawdust. I hate those times and this site is one way that I get through them without going buggy.

Shopsmith, Inc. is not the only ones to be thanked though. The membership of this forum is what really makes it great. Thank you all.
