In order to buy my Mark V Planer I had to take the model 500 as well. It is a mid-seventy's model with two slots in the table and a metal sawguard -- well, most of a metal sawguard. I have the lower shell, the upper shell, and the splitter with anti-kickback pawls. What I'm missing is the hardware for the upper shell (I have nothing except the cast piece) and the bracket that screws to the lower guard and its mounting hardware.
I am planning on selling the machine to recoup part of my investment, and though the old metal guard is not the best, it is better than nothing, and I would much rather sell it with a saw guard.
I looked on Shopsmith's site and didn't see parts for the old guard. Are then on a secret web page somewhere? Or are the parts obsolete?

If your speaking of the 500 version, it should work. That one has a mounting block that mounts on the back leg of the work table.paulrussell wrote:I was wondering if there is any reason you couldn't use the new plastic upper saw guard with an older metal lower saw guard?

Oops -- sorry I wasn't specific. Yes, the 500 version. Thank you for confirming my assumption.SDSSmith wrote:If your speaking of the 500 version, it should work. That one has a mounting block that mounts on the back leg of the work table.
