Genuinely Exciting news (but only for me)

I've cast my vote -- I am picking up a DC3300 early next week. It includes all the goodies and hoses that come with a new one and I got it for $170, which is probably about break-even with the HF once you add the hoses and fittings.
The amperage issue is what tipped the balance for me... that and the red circle.

I agree it doesn't look like much of a cyclone to me either(no decreasing radius cone[that is what makes the cyclone 'work']).

The reasons I added the "primary cyclone" were

1) to prevent heavy particles from passing through the impeller
2) to make emtying the chips easier.

It works very well at both.

Acquisition is complete on an early 70's model 500 (with two slots in the table), a 1984 12" Shopsmith Planer, and a stand-alone grey Shopsmith Scrollsaw, as well as the standard assortment of odds and ends that may or may not be of Shopsmith origin.

Tomorrow I pick up my DC3300.

Guess what?! I've got a fever, and the only prescription... is more Shopsmith!

Never-ending questions:

Dust collection -- I'm a little confused by the bandsaw dust collector retrofit that Shopsmith offers. It shows an elbow connector which I find confusing. Does the elbow attach on the outside and point down?

Jointer and Planer sharpening -- what does the sharpening jig from Shopsmith that works with the conical disk offer over a homebrew jig consisting of a board with a 45 degree slot and a couple thumbscrews to hold the blades?

510/520 upgrade -- What have people done with the left over parts? Especially the fence which would be quite a waste to just have stacked in a corner.

the 510 fence does not fit the 520...
I held onto the 510 stuff for over a year thinking I could get some use from it but eventually I sold mine some someone else could get some use from it.

The elbow points whatever way ya want it to. Yes it attaches to the outside of the cover.

You can make your own jointer/planer knife sharpening jig. The SS jig just comes ready to use out of the box. Here is the link to the handson article http://www.shopsmithhandson.com/archives/mar_apr_04/html/academytips/academytips.pdf
for the homemade jointer sharpening jig. This jig shows up in the original PTWFE that was written for the 10ER.

As far as the extra parts, you can use the table and carriage as an outfeed table with the proper base. I bought a 520 that the owner had left the old carriage and table to the left of the headstock for additional support. He did not use the machine to drive any SPT's. Others have used the table to make a router table. The fence can be modified to be used as a bandsaw fence. The fence bar on the 500 is the same extrusion that is used for the newer bandsaw table extension and the fence bar for the bandsaw fence. One of my old Magna (cast iron table) bandsaw has the modded 500 rip fence mounted as a rip fence. Besides saving them for a rainy day, you can always sell them to offset the cost of your addiction.]
