Sorry for jumping on forum without a proper introduction, but found myself tearing into an old shopsmith over the weekend and in need of help. The proper thing to do would have been an introductory post prior. So, to fix that , here goes.
My name is Doug. I currently live near Denver, CO. A few years back I inherited my grandfather's 10ER, my brother his Mark V.
The 10ER is still in good shape, but I'd like to restore it to some semblance of glory. I've got many a good memory of him working on it in his basement shop. It was the one place you could always find him, and he always had a project or two in the works. So many things around his house he built himself, as well as many gifts for family and friends. Some years before he died, he purchased a Mark V and gave the 10ER to my mother/stepfather. He never said a word to us, but we found out later that he'd wished he'd kept the 10ER and had given us the Mark V.
In preparing to clean up the old machine, I went looking for one on Craigslist that I could practice on. I figured it's better to risk one I'm not attached to than damage one I am. When I went looking for one to practice on, I ended up with two at a pretty good price (close, but not quite free).
This weekend I started working on cleaning up the first two machines, practicing my restoration techniques. I don't recall how I stumbled upon the forum here, but in doing so have found many GREAT examples of what I'm trying to do. Some of your posts have inspired and encouraged me, so much so that last night I'm pumping electricity into a bucket! What a blast!!!
So, now you'll have to endure a bunch of questions as I stumble my way through these machines. I'll look at the digital camera in the next day or two and work at getting pictures added to posts as I can. I'm technically savvy enough to handle that, just haven't taken the time.

Welcome to the forum and thanks for sharing your story and your journey! One thing you'll find with those 10ER units (I have restored 2 now) is that they are really hard to tear up.
