Are you getting a PowerPro?

I said no, I can't justify the cost to myself and even if I could I would then have to get it past the love of my life.

This may be a good thing. For years I have toyed with the idea of junking my present shop and going to the guided tools system along with a bandsaw, planer and some high quality hand tools. This might be the incentive I need to make the switch.

Just my luck that they would release the Power Pro just a week after I dropped 3 grand on some Festool products. Not to worry though it is on my short list.

A Greenie upgrade requires the later die cast aluminum headstock, not the earlier sand cast one.(Per one Nick E).

I really can't justify the cost either. But I did it anyway. Never claimed to be too bright.

OTOH, for just over the cost of the new 520 I had been planing on buying, I have built a woodworking arsenal:
PowerPro 520, bandsaw, jointer, planer, scrollsaw, dust collector, lift-assist, belt sander, ringmaster and a Bosch router. And a Shopsmith 500 for dad.

Poll results are interesting: about 1/3 are buying or intend to buy, 1/3 might buy in future, and 1/3 are passing.

It sure would be nice if some of the folk who had the privilege of test driving the PowerPro would post their reviews.

I still can't throw out a screw, nut or bolt and I have more junk than I know what to do with.

Ed, I am curious how the announcement of the Power Pro is an incentive to get rid of your Shopsmith. Are you concerned that this introduction will cause the company to fail? Or?

Personally, I have decided on the do nothing option. But, I am anxious to hear from those who have or will have the new headstock.

That would be very helpful and very interesting but do we really know that there were beta units distributed?

The forum seems to think so but Shopsmith has never made such an announcement that I know of.

Now I am also assuming that if there was a beta unit it would be in the hands of a forum member but that also may be a pipe dream. I am just very naive.

Dusty, there have been pics in the Forum with suspiciously blacked out control panels that look to be a POWERPRO. Maybe some of those lucky folks will post comments on its use.

I voted Don't Need it because of the price and I'll wait to see the reliability. My 1976 has been so reliable I am reluctant to change even if I could afford it.

This just ain't right! No way I can have a Shopsmith product that you don't already have four of.

Interesting that among forum members, only seven fess-up to having ordered one. 8iowa ordered two, kicking the total to eight. Makes me wonder how many were included in the initial batch? Of course not all buyers haunt these forums, but it still seems like it didn't take many to sell out the first batch.

It is quite possible that they agreed to not divulge anything (Intentionally:D) until after production units have been shipped.
