Mental meanderings on Shopsmith past, present and future

You have expressed several very good ideas, Paul. Unfortunately, I am not at all sure that people making decisions at Shopsmith will ever read them. We very seldom get any feedback from "Shopsmith" or "RLF Shop, LLC" if that is what is preferred.

Maybe, when the PowerPro makes its debut things will change.

It would greatly increase the probability that your communication would be read - if you mean "send a hard copy letter".

Sending an email will probably not do much good. I have three email on my system right now that have never been opened.

Interesting comment. Would you please consider filling out your profile so that we can understand (maybe) where you are coming from with this.

Are you by chance a lawyer or have other legal background?

Hi Dusty,

I updated my profile for the forum. I am a NEWby at wood working. Last project was many years ago but my interest in making Virtual Pipe Organ consoles has led me to take it up again.

No I am not a lawyer but I knew the gentleman from whom I first heard the quote very well. He would tell you, "I am an attorney at law not a lawyer".

I actually posted the quote for another post back up the forum but forgot to quote the original so they would be connected. It was something about SS would not allow something or another for fear of lawsuits.

I actually got to reading the forum trying to see what the current condition of whoever is building the Shopsmith is. I am unable to determine (from internet sources anyway) who is actually running the show.

I do know that Shopsmith, Inc the Nevada Corporation licensed to operate in Ohio was disolved on 3/31/2009 and the Ohio 'foreign' registration was given up sometime in April of 2009. But there is no Ohio or Nevada listing of a limited liability corporation named RLF Shop, LLC in Ohio or Nevada. RLF probably incorporated in another state and I have not found it yet, as they seem to still be in business and still turning out orders.

I too look forward to the possibility of the DVR headstock. I hope it happens.

Until then I will continue with my collection of SS accessories. Next is a thickness planer.

Talked with shopsmith couple of days ago...told new Mark VII coming Sept'10 with power pro head stock...it will lift from both ends...all attachments that work with 520 ok... interesting news

Now that is a vision that I would like to see in my shop. A Mark VII (big and heavy as it is) outfitted with a new Power Pro headstock and a full set of Shopsmith peripherals. What else would the turning world need?

Mark VII owners, start saving your money. You just might need a new headstock.

Interesting indeed... Now I have to wonder if the "new" Mark VII will be a remake of the old one minus the speed control problem. The Mark VII "WAS" designed to be a radical "improvement" over the Mark V... Otherwise there would be a complete change in "both" Mark V end castings at the least...
I wonder why they would call it a Mark VII instead of a Mark VIII?
