What he read was that the pp will not restart after a power interruption. The planer turning the pp off is such an interruption, and the planer switch will no longer control the ss.

Nice all inclusive 'claim', but, remember the band saw table upgrade form the smaller cast iron table? Only 'marketing' types make such assertions, engineers, never!!!(well not intentionally:o ) Remember Murphey's law!:D

Just learned from Customer Service that 60 Power Pros have been pre-ordered. I'm not sure why the poll doesn't reflect it. Orders will be released in 6-8 weeks and then weekly afterwards.

Only a very small percentage of Shopsmith owners participate in this forum. I would think many of them ordered from the email SS sent out.

Remember that the poll was not prepared by Shopsmith. It is a product of the forum. Someone indicated that there were twenty being built in the first two production runs. We don't even know that number is valid. In addition to that, the poll reflects that 13 members have commented, indicating that they have ordered an upgrade. Only ten (10) of those thirteen have said, on the forum, that their order has been placed. The other three (3) are simply not given a name here on the forum.

I am so glad to hear that there are that many on order or received.

Thank You Backhertz for that postive information. That's a pretty good initial production run and I'm encouraged by it. Rather than continued assumptions, at last we have something official to go by. I can't wait for the second prduction run so prehaps we can have an indication of how sales are moving.

Tdubnik, you are correct , there is no way to know what the great silent majority is doing unless they participate in this forum. With over 6100 members now, surely there will be some sales. As Dusty just pointed out, this was a forum generated response and has nothing to do with what is going on at SS. I feel more encouraged about SS than I have in a long, long time.

Remember also that those 6100+ are those that have signed on to the forum and that "anybody" can "read" the forum anytime without signing up. I read it for a while off and on before I wanted to say something and joined.

A tid bit of superfluous information: On Oct 29, 2009 there was 5105 meetings signed up on the forum. Today there is 6154. This is an increase of 1049 members. My first post using my new droid phone.
Today I read something that makes me question how compatible the PowerPro is with the planer. To use the planer you first plug the Shopsmith into the planer & use the planer to control the power to the headstock. The powerpro does not come back on when power is removed then reapplied (a valid safety feature) but this seems incompatible or at best awkward in use with the planer.

Here's my take on this....
For the Mark-V-Mount Planer, I always viewed the planer's Big Red power-switch as
(#1) a safety shutoff -- high importance, and
(#2) a power-on switch, with less critical sequencing.

Specifically regarding scenario #2, I didn't like just starting the Planer and the original Mark V headstock all at the same time at full speed. I would start the planer-switch, and either have the Mark V originally 'off' or 'slow,' then finally crank the headstock up to full planing speed. Otherwise it could strain things starting things all at once at high dial speeds.

So I think any specific new sequences involved in starting a PowerPro for using the planer are of a similar amount of complexity as older-time best practices. When planing, there is no need to be in a hurry starting motors.

Well #1 certainly makes sense! #2 to me does not! But then I do not 'have one'!

Therefore compatibility is NOT an issue with PP! IMHO
