My Parts Have Arrived

Well, my parts arrived in several packages over the last couple of months, but I'm home again and I unpacked them all.

Tomorrow I'll take some pics of the many bits and post them here, but this post is mainly to say Thank You Scott.

I needed someone to be a forwarding postbox for me to get some items from ShopSmith and a forum member (Scott) stepped forward and offered his help. This progressed into also forwarding a bunch of stuff from ebay sellers who would / could not ship to South Africa.

Scott - Thanks again. Without your assistance, I would probably not have enough parts to get my Goldie working again. I am in your debt. It is guys like Scott who make this truly a forum by members for members.

These are the parts that arrived before I went away

And here are the parts that arrived while I was away.

Most of them arrived in very good condition, but some have rusted while waiting for my return.

I would bet the casters were rusted b4 you purchased them!;) They will clean up nicely!

P.S. I did not see a main shaft or quill parts. I assume you did not need them?

What was involved in shipping to SA re customs etc.???

Unfortunately the castors arrived unrusted, but deteriorated while I was away. I live in a very humid area, so rust is a part of our lives.

The customs issues aren't particularly onerous. Any package is liable to be opened and inspected for contraband, but normally if the correct documentation is supplied with the package, the chances of being opened is lessened. The value of the package as shown on the documents is where the possible issues arise. If the (customs) deemed value is significantly higher than the declared value penalties will be applied. If' however, the customs officials are pleased with the declared value there is no problem. Packages with a value less than a certain value are passed through with no further action, but if the value is over a certain amount then duties are payable by the receiving party before the package is released to them.

Most of my purchases slipped through with no extra payments needed, but a few had duties / levies applied. Off hand I can't tell you how much I had to pay extra, but I know that shipping and duties combined was less than the total of the purchase prices.
