Kreg Fence instalation

OK, I finally got around trying to install the Kreg fence. I finished all the instructions in the Shopsmith part of the instruction manual. The next thing the instructions say is continue installation from the Kreg manual. The Kreg manual starts with talking about aligning the front rail to leave room to just clear the mitre gauge slot. On the Shopsmith the slot is in front of any part of the front rail (this is shown in the picture on Shopsmith.com), the Kreg manual also says the fence can be used on either side of the blade but I don't see that works on the Shopsmith since the blade retainer nut would get in the way.

Does anyone have any additional information on installing the fence, I need to use it this week.

I don't have the Kreg fence so can't offer any help. But, I have a question about the picture you reference (Shopsmith.com).

What purpose is served by all of the rail that is to the left of the fence?

When I read the instructions (http://www.kregtool.com/education_cente ... fence.pdf), it seems as though the fence is intended to span the front of the table, ie to the right side of the blade. Reference the paragraph entitled "Drilling the Mounting Rail".

While I would love to see a session on the fence, I need to use it now. The Shopsmith version of the fence, I believe, does not require drilling it comes with an extra piece of metal that mounts to the Shopsmith Band-saw table and has holes that match with the holes in the Kreg fence.

More questions, the FT4025 screws are designed to adjust something but they seem to do just go into the slot on the rail and don't actually touch anything.

Hi,

I don't own one of these but by looking at the manual that Dusty posted it looks like the parts you referenced are nylon and are used to get the fence aligned to blade, ie parallel to it (page 8 right side under picture caption and then described just below that). So they should thread in and contact, then adjust that.

They thread in they don't seem to touch anything, there is a groove in the rail and the screws seem to fit beautifully in them. That, the extra rail (see below) and the extra parts is what leads me to believe I set something up wrong.

I also don't understand most of the rail to the left of the fence it does not seem to serve any purpose and as someone else pointed out to me it is a big safety hazard to anyone walking behind the machine.

You can also ask the same questions at the other shopsmith forum or at the yahoo group... we have a lot of people who only watch their favorite shopsmith site....... I visit all three.

Rather then us guessing since the only two people responding don't own one, have you called shopsmith and talked to someone there? Since they sell them I'm guessing someone can help you, and it might be a lot faster then waiting here for a responce.

Two washers and all of the Shims, and I have the number called out in the parts list.

I have no idea why so much sticks out the back, that is why I think I did something wrong.

Project will be done this weekend, with or without the fence properly set up. I am trimming large quantities of plastic tile to various sizes it would be trivial with the scale on the new fence.

I have gotten some pictures via email of installed fences but no answers to the questions. So far no one is sure they did it right but things are working for them. I am close to the point of just getting close. It is hard for me to call Shopsmith when they are open due to the time zone differences.
