I have not tried this, but would try this first.
Rig up a 'tool rest' so that a flat bar or old chisel can be held against the wheel while manually rotating it. A good straight edge is needed on the scraping 'tool'. After removing(hopefully) most of the buildup, dissolve remaining debris(rag and solvent). Not sure what solvent would work best. I would try different ones and use whichever worked best.
Hand held screwdriver(or chisel) scrapers tend to gouge!
Great that you gotter done!

I have generally had good success with lacquer thinner for dissolving the adhesive on bandsaw wheels and sanding discs. I try to use nature's natural heater, the sun, beforehand to help in the mechanical removal before the final cleanup with the lacquer thinner.

Which 3M adhesive do you use for this purpose? Fjimp

wanderir, whichever way you decide to go, rubber vs. urethane, both are on sale right now along with some other bandsaw "goodies".

They haven't said anything good about the ss tire adhesive either!;)Wanderir wrote:Thanks! I'll order on Monday. I'm going with rubber as I've not heard anyone say good things about the urethane.

I was quoting BM! He does not like it! He is the they I was referring to.SDSSmith wrote:I have done a number of rubber tires with the Shopsmith adhesive and have not had any problems. If one goes that route, you only need the one tube for two tires.

I understand JPG, I was simply providing another data point to what appeared to be very limited data, a little balance.]SDSSmith wrote:I have done a number of rubber tires with the Shopsmith adhesive and have not had any problems. If one goes that route, you only need the one tube for two tires.
