Roberts refurbished shopsmith

Post by vanmeter2r »

Hello everyone,

I am almost finished with the Shopsmith, but due to health issues, i had to stop working on it for a while until i start feeling a little better ( please read my other post to see what the Shopsmith looked like and about my health). Once my jigsaw picture comes up, you will be able to see when I had to stop working on it due to surgery. I tried to use only original bolts that cam out of the machine. I did break an end cap that that holds the bars (using sledge hammer) and broke the accessory attachment. otherwise, everything is completely original as far as I remember. If you want to refurbish a Shopsmith correctly, it will not be cheap, I think, I have something close to $400 plus into paint and other items needed to correctly due this machine justice, but it is WELL worth it to me. I truely have my blood sweat and tears into this project and I thank everyone on this forum for your comments. Its going to take me several post to get all the pictures on here, but hopefully everyone will enjoy my work and please leave comments. Yes, I primered everything due to the environment where I live and I used hammered look paint.

roberts 5th and last load of pictures

Post by vanmeter2r »

Well, attached is my last load of pictures. The machine runs well, even though I think the turn know may have issues (a little hard to turn when going to slow). I would like to get an old jig saw and sander in the future, but currently, it seems whenever i see one on Ebay, it seem the sellers want new price. I'm just looking for something I can refurbish and put personal time into. If anyone has an old jigsaw or sander they would like to get rid of, please keep me in mind.

Once again to ALL members of this forum, thank you for your help.

Great job! I really like the pin strip at the top of the legs. And the two-tone bandsaw cover is really nice too. I haven't done anything with my bandsaw yet, but you've given me inspiration.

Bob,

I will resize the old pics and re-post them here. It will take a little while but I think it will be a good idea to have all the pics under one string; that way people can see the work that is put into a project. I attached a few pics but I have MANY more of the before project that I will submit for everyone's viewing.

A GREAT job indeed!

Notice ya paid attention to the headstock/carriage spacer thread. Did I notice that dtain waste pipe on both bench tubes?

Now for the eagle eye pickey response: Any particular reason you installed the foot pedals upside down?:D

Loved the two tone band saw cover also! I assume the back is on yer todo list. Might wanna add the under the table cover while the paint can is out!

Again - GREAT job Ya might consider posting a couple of pix to the restored archive thread started by shipwright.
