Robert Before Restore

Post by vanmeter2r »

Attached is before restore last set. Just to let everyone know, this is a 1994 Mark V that had been sitting outside at the beach in Tampa area (according to the lady I purchased it from).

I would like to thank everyone for your comments. If the administrator can help me, if there is a restore section, can this post be copied to that section?:D

SDSSMITH (GOOD CATCH)Yes I did paint the entire jointer (my bad), but if you look at some of the pictures of the jointer before, you will understand why I painted it. I intend to take the paint off later. I did 6 days of electrolysis to the jointer because it was in severe corrosion state; even the work surface had major pitting (unfortunately). I cutting wheel was frozen solid and the blades were eaten flat. I know I need to take the paint off to get a smooth run with a board. I got some used blades in there now, but I still need to adjust them properly.

Roberts refurbished shopsmith

I forgot to mention, this shopsmith is not just for looks, I have already did several small projects and just waiting until I get better then I have a large gazebo project momma wants me to accomplish. Just to let everyone know, if you ever break your accessory piece to mount from headstock to accessory, you can use liquid steel for a temporary (permanent) repair until you buy a new one from Shopsmith. Ensure you let it harden for at least a full day. If you get any of the liquid steel into one of the ends, you will have to wait until it hardens then use a needle file to shave it down. I have used the repair piece with my jig saw and have tuned the dial to E so far without any problems. Remember, this is just a temporary repair and I do no recommend it as a permanent replacement, but I am keeping mine as an emergency backup.

You have truly done an excellent job of bringing her back to useful life.

It is difficult for me to comprehend why any one would leave it out in the wonderful salt sea air!

Enjoy her, you deserve it!

Thank you for the comments; I am hoping to get a belt sander for this machine in the future, but I have to get healthier so I can finish the rest of this Shopsmith. In the future, I wouldn't mind acquiring an older machine to refurbish, but I have enough projects now. Currently, I am planning on making a cabinet for underneath the Shopsmith plus I just had a new 12X24 workshop (metal shed) put on my property that I intend to put up Sheetrock, A/C, ceiling fan, and electricity into.
