i've heard that you can update a mark V carriage is this true and if so how do you do it. Jack

I am not sure that I understand what you mean by upgrading a Mark V Carriage. If you have a Mark 5 Model 500, you can upgrade to a later model.

You can buy a 510 Carriage and it will fit on the way tubes BUT you won't have all of the mating accessories required to be functional.

Bottom line, you need more than a carriage to upgrade. Check here to find which upgrade kits are available from Shopsmith. Not that you are going to sit right down and order one but a little research should tell you what is needed to upgrade (and the cost of doing so).

Welcome to the forum Jack. Perhaps you are refuring to an upgrade from a Mark V to a Mark 510 or 520. This link should help.
