Drive Hubs for cheap?

I guess I had grabbed some erroneous part for my sample. The one I grabbed was the extra 5-splined and somehow it has a 1/2" bore. When I got home and slid the 5/8" diameter shaft set collar on I knew I had a bronze sleeve to return. I spent about 20 minutes with a jeweler's drill and a separating disk to score the lines, and some Grobet files to widen the lines to make this collar fit right. It's not perfect but it'll get me going. Once I get the drill press working and a good drill vise, I'll bore out that erroneous hub to 5/8" diameter so I'll have a spare for the accessory side. I'll post a photo tomorrow.

I could have sworn the part was $20 - oh well, when I order some parts later it'll be on my list to get the real deal (although this should work for a long time). Thanks for the link. The Shopsmith parts search is pretty difficult for me to wrap my head around. And I am a machine designer and jeweler so terminology should be a breeze.

The SPT hubs come in two sizes - 1/2" bore and 5/8" bore. The 1/2" are for the jointer and jigsaw,(paint sprayer???)(scroll saw???). Every other SPT hub has a 5/8" bore. Champher one end to make sliding the coupler on easier.

Don't bore out the 1/2" hub! They are more difficult to find than the 5/8". Get a 5/8" spare with the drive hub when you order that one. Oh and get a drive hub for the lower output shaft also(they are shorter than the 'main' drive hub).

I needed a drive hub for that EERF belt sander I posted awhile ago. It was made from easy to work brass and took perhaps 1/2 hr to make, but I used a $250 metal cutting bandsaw,a $1500 Southbend lathe, a $300 drill press and $50 tap kit to save time and $3.89! lol, I know, I know, hopeless toolnut...............

I saw that, and I was watching them, but for this price I'll buy from SS, and get new ones. My homemade should be fine for now - I'll photograph soon.
