quick question on removing pulley belt

read and saw video.

have done this before, once.

the lower sheaves. they should be close together when trying tro remove belt. Correct?

I can't make them go apart if they need to be.

When I turn the shaft by hand (have small face plate on to grab)
and pull the belt toward me, the smaller belt (top belt) slips around the shafts it on and the pulley belt won't go around anymore.


am I doing all this right

To remove the drive belt, run the Mark V up to "High Speed" this moves the sheaves apart and reduces tension from the drive belt. Belt should come off easily.

Turn off and unplug the Mark V.

The machine should be in the fast position, motor sheaves are closed (close together) and the control sheave is pulled back from the idler sheave. It sounds like you have the machine in this position. You should be able to pull the motor's floating sheave toward you (watch your fingers and don't let it snap back). This will create slack in the drive belt to allow you to get one side of the belt around the floating sheave. Then it is a simple matter of working the belt off of the the floating sheave. It seems based on the failure that the machine has not been serviced in a while and the motor sheave is probably sticking. You may have to lube the floating sheave and work it loose before you can remove the belt.

can't run the machine to move the sheave. the quantant doesn't work.

but I did get it.

Had to get a little ugly with it and ended up moving the floating sheave by hand.

I thought Nick's video showed the sheave close together
