feeling mechanical-but still need you guys

making some progress.

thanks to all for the help.

got the powerswitch pushed through, the motor dropped, removed speed controler and the porkchop (which was way easy) good way to clean that stuff.

Finally got the control sleeve unfrozen with help from previous read post on how not to destroy it.

I have the control sleeve moving very easily up and down the shaft, now the question that the picture will explain.

the little "shaft" hanging on the end of the loop spring. That is supposed to be connected to the bushing, but how.

Did this break off? I almost feels like I could pressure fit it in, am I supposed to?
johnmccrossen anad SDSSmith wrote in another post and it sounded like it's supposed to fit in there, double checking since I now have a better picture of my problem

Does this come attached to a new control sheave, and if so then I need to buy a new control sheave.

I do not believe that it broke off. Rather I believe that it pulled out of the bearing in the end of the control sheave. You need to see if you can press it back into that bearing. If the fit is not snug enough it may pull out again. Also, make sure the bearing is okay. If it fails again it will be no big deal as you will be a regular expert on dismantling the headstock.

Put it back in in seconds. Seems very tight. I checked the bearing before and it appeared to be fine, and still seems that way.

I have to agree with you that it must have gotten pulled out by somebody who got too physical with a part that had gotten stuck due to lack of maintenance.

Congrats!!!! Always nice when you can keep the $$$ in your pocket vs. buying replacement parts. Treat yourself to something with the money.

I strongly recommend that you put a Control Sheave (515556) on order. That bearing pulled out for a reason and I don't believe pushing it back in (by hand) is going to "fix" it. However, it is true, you will get valuable experience doing this over again.

BTW Did you not previously have a similar problem with your other machine.

Dusty, I had to hammer it back it, so it wasn't an easy slip.

At least if it pulls out again, I know what it is.

My other MV had a bent spring/loop.

After humpty dumpty is back together, it time to cut tubes for mini
