It allows one to 'try' oiling the floating sheave without removing the belt cover.
If you think hitting the control sheave oil hole with an oil spout is fun through the 'access' hole under the medallion, try hitting the hole in the floating sheave through THAT hole!:D

I wasn't griping, it isn't much trouble to pull the cover and do what ever you need to do. I guess it says something about the SS that I even commented on that as an "issue". And Dusty, even I wouldn't try to ... you know. But remember I am the guy who broke the clip holding the wires on the switch cleaning it through that hole!:o
