Fixing a jigsaw
I was given the older style SS jigsaw with a removable arm. The problem is that the arm rotated so that it is below table and it seems to be rusted in place. I got the holding screw out but I can't seem to make the arm move even with lots of WD-40 and elbow grease. Any ideas on removing the arm?

A penetrating oil will work better than WD40. I like plain old Kerosene, others swear by Kroil and PB Blaster.
This task is made more difficult by the presence of the anti-rotation roll pin.
Fortunately only the tube is steel(the other half is aluminum).
After a lengthy soak with penetrating oil I would try tapping(wooden mallet) until the tube is starting to emerge from the casting and the roll pin is clear of the housing. Torsion can then be applied to help. In any event, do not let it get cocked.
I do not know of a gooder way!!!:(

If the above does not work, you should try a torch, just not too much heat on the aluminum housing. This has been my final solution when steel and aluminum (exp. way tube & base arm) have formed a bond that is very difficult to break free. I have the remains of several housings where the jig saw housing was broken before the steel arm could be removed so you have to be careful with any hammer.JPG40504 wrote:A penetrating oil will work better than WD40. Part way there
Thanks for the tips! I finally got the arm free. Now I'm dealing height adjustment on the head. I was beating on it and the head sheared off the arm. There is enough of the head still there that I think I can put it back on with an aluminum plate as a large washer.
I got some hand jigsaw blades and I have been using it with out the head. It cuts a little bit rough but it works. I'll keep you posted, thanks for the tips!
