A couple of weeks ago someone posted a statement regarding the Power Pro requiring an upgrade to the lift assist. I spoke with Linda in that regard today and learned the existing lift assist will work with the power pro yet lifts is slowly. They have introduced a replacement gas charged cylinder that has greater lift ability. If I remember correctly the price is about $42. With my week shoulder I fell this is a must. Incidentally I also learned the motor alone weighs 25 pounds. Now if I had passed on catching a 70 pound halibut in Alaska last week perhaps my shoulder would not mind lifting the Mark V:D Fjimp

Yes, Scott, I am now aware and I respect your position. I do visit your website frequently and find it to be very informative.

Like I said though, I always knew that there had to be some beta testing going on. I just had high hopes that some of the frequent posters to this forum would have been recognized for their devotion to the Shopsmith cause and that some of them would have been testers.

The forum, however, benefits very little from the lurker. It is sort of like a one way street that only goes "out-of-town". No traffic flows in and soon the town is vacant, except for the die-hards.

There are many Shopsmith owners who are or have been very active here on the forum. Many of them would have been very proud to be amongst the "chosen few" but it appears that none of them were. I know at least one and possibly two or three others who hardly ever post anymore. It is a shame. The forum needs those folks in order to survive the long haul.

Now that you are no longer swore to secrecy, I hope that we will hear from you on a frequent basis; not just about the PowerPro but about all things related.

I posted earlier about my inability to envision most things mechanical. I need to see it work to understand how it works. I've got to go sit in front of the Shopsmith and stare for awhile to understand how the existing lift-assist works when the Mark V is tilted up on the left side.

Me thinks you are extrapolating its function into a new 'area'(works for left tilt). The 'new' strut is to accommodate the extra weight, not a new direction.

So please do not strain yourself trying to understand what is not!(leave that for Mrs. MickyD:D) No comprende? Ask Mike!

I'm sorry but I have had my staring session and I do not see how the existing lift-assist can even be allowed to exist on a Mark 7 when it is raised to vertical at the other end.

Hopefully bstadler will provide pix of the 'left' end and stop all this speculation. It looks like the table will not flip 90 degrees right. The pivot pin on the right end does look different. Need to see the 'tie bars' up close.

Question for any of you others that have a PowerPro. I finally got an opportunity to go make some sawdust with my new PowerPro. I really do like it, but have noticed one thing... The "wing-nut" that you turn to lock the headstock on the tubes to keep it from sliding back and forth seems to have significant resistance. A couple times I'd thought I had tightened it enough to lock the position only to have the headstock slip when I tried extending the quill to move my stock to the live-center (was in lathe turning operation). Anyone else notice anything similar? Think it will "wear-in" or should I call CS?

tom, Is this an upgraded headstock or a new unit. If you upgraded your headstock you need to inspect the wedges. There is very little else that could give the symptoms you describe.

If it is a new headstock, by all means to need to contact CS just to preserve your warranty.
