First coffee table

This coffee table I made using my Shopsmith. It is constructed of old barn lumber,that was originally built somewhere between 1850-1910. I planed the lumber just enough to get a squared-up surface to work with, not squaring the entire piece. Some of the wood was rotting, to stop any furthering I used wood hardener and then soaked the piece in super-glue. One pice was so rotted I cut it out and then patched it another piece of the wood further down the original beam. For this 'patch-piece', I pinned it in with glue and pins turned on the lathe from the same beam.

I originally wanted to use no modern hardware for this table, but sturdiness was an issue and I am still learning. I used 'L' brackets to attatch the legs, and regular screws and glue to assemble the frame of the table.

The top of the table is tiled set on a pine backer. The center section raises to expose a small storage cubby, big enough for several remotes of 1 large coffee table book.

I have yet to put a knob in the center section, havent found anything I like.

I love it! And... if you're looking for a "just-so knob," you'll probably find it on the spindle of your Shopsmith after a little turning.

That's a craftman's table and needs a craftman's knob I think lol.
I made my drawer pulls for my under ss cab. here's a pic of it cropped from a larger pic, so it's small.
