Magna Jigsaw C-Arm Screw/Calmp

Hi all
This is my first time posting on this forum (great forum by the way).

I coworker of mine gave me his shopsmith (Greenie) about a month ago and it was bare bones and did not work. It required purchasing too many pieces to rebuild. So I found one (greenie) on craigslist for a decent price which had a lot of accessories and most of the parts. Inspired by some users on this forum I have decided to restore my working Greenie. Al though this will be a long process for me I’m determine to finish this project.

My first task will be to restore the magna 610 jigsaw. I was looking for an exploded so I can order the missing screw/clamp. I’m missing the screw/clamp that holds the C arm at the bottom of the jig saw. Anybody know where I can purchase this or even have a picture of what it is?

Welcome to the forum! I'm a recent addition myself and have found it invaluable for my own restoration project. Please keep us posted on how it's going!

I wish I could help with your jig saw question but my MK 5 is bare bones itself. I know others can help. As you get started, here are some pages I have bookmarked for the process.

I had exactly your same problem. I was missing the clamping assembly that held the "Tube Arm" to the lower housing. If the picture you attached is of your Jig Saw, the clamping assembly seems to be there already.

It is basically just a bolt (1/4-20 x 1-1/2" socket screw), washer, and two wedges. Since it is a discontinued item with Shopsmith, the parts are not available (I know, I checked). So I made my own and it works like a charm. At my local hardware store, I purchased the socket screw and a washer to fit the space. I also purchased a couple of aluminum bushings of the correct inside diameter and outside diameter about 1/2 long. I filed the wedge on these parts to fit the circumference of the tube. And I used a nut to hold the whole assembly together and allow the correct tightening. I can't tell you much more but you will have to use your imagination and machinist skills (if you have any) to accomplish the task. I have attempted to attach a picture of the exploded parts list that may be of some help.

I will go the hardware story this weekend and find these items..I new it was more than a screw and washer but was not sure but the exploded view clearly illustrates the missing pieces. The picture I posted should have had the screw circled in red but didn’t work..The picture of the jig saw is not my jigsaw it’s a picture I found on this forum and cropped it to show the screw I needed..

IF you do decide to 'make' the wedges, consider making the 'far' wedge threaded to provide the 'nut ' for the clamping action.

The screw is a 1/4-20 x 1 1/2" cap screw. The washer has a 1/2" od. The wedges are approx 1/2" od(.546)(??) and are 5/8" long. The front one has a 1/4" clearance bore, and the back one is tapped to 1/4 - 20.

Correction!!!!! The 'front' wedge is 1/2" long. The 'back' (tapped) one is 5/8".
