Lathe tool holder

I was able to download the pics off of my camera card. the tool holder is a design of a fellow ShopSmith owner and I must defer credit to him!!

I finished gluing the other side up with the dowels installed, tonight

looking good! i would like to see it fully assembled also. don't know that i have ever seen dowels in a dado joint. should be strong enough to drive a truck over.

i'll get some pics of the finished unit in the morning. it works really good, but i need to hollow the dimples for the back end of the tools, as the they're not quite deep enough...

Why 'dimples'. Flat bottomed counter bore(non-through forstner hole)not OK? Or a 1/2" mdf with through holes?

here's a partial side view of the finished project on the way tubes. the wood is scrap from a local restorer of "woody station wagons and cars". i like using dowels on little projects like this because i like the "contrast" of wood colors. i made a bunch of earings for the ladys in my family, about fifteen years ago. i used three colors glued together and then hand cut and finished. my older hands dont take kindly to that kind of miniture work anymore.....

Hey Paul, i guess you know i have a couple of kits that will be forthcoming!!!

the mandrel should be here in a couple of days.......then its off and runnin!!

i got a trash can full of scraps from that "woody" shop and as soon as i get a few minutes to see what treasures he threw out, i'll let you know!!

i have a commerical die grinder from race engine days, and the carbide bits need a little use now and then.....and it keeps my skills up!! i like free form a lot and practice it every chance i get..

just as soon as i can locate it again, i will. that was a very intense reading time for me, right after my new/used SS was sitting in the shop. i cant remember what section it was in at the moment, but i'm going back through my older hard drive/one remaining brain cell, and see if i can find it.... i spent several weeks reading and learning, and trying to apply what worked for different folks to my smaller shop situation. mine is almost a duplicate of his, with the length of mine different than his. i made mine with a little more depth to have a few more inches on the way bars for different length projects. it leaves enough spaces to configure the ends of some more files, or buy more tools...
