Yes that is the one very slight downside when turning jewelry and wine corks easily solved several ways discussed elsewhere. To avoid the search, you need to extend the tail-stock live center about 3" either using a #2 to #2 Morse taper extender or two Shopsmith live center extenders, one comes with the lathe duplicator.

If you want to find it yourself - go to the Shopsmith Owner's site - on the Products list (on the left side of the page) click on The red triangle in front of the words "Lathe Turning" - then click "Turning Accessories" from the drop down list - then click "Universal Tool Rest" from the next drop down menu.
