In the process of removing the Drive Sleeve, the inside/back bearing will move slighly on the shaft or when installing the Drive Sleeve, the outside/front bearing will move slightly on the shaft to prevent the retaining ring from fitting. Remove the Drive Sleeve and check that both bearings are tight againest their snap rings. I have used a deep well socket (only againest the outter bearing race) and extension when installing the drive sleeve to insure the outside bearing do not move on the Drive Sleeve. How much of the inside/back bearing is showing? Another picture of this bearing will help.rolands wrote:Hopefully someone has a suggestion for me here. Thanks for the reply. I would say that about 1/16 of an inch on the inside/back bearing is showing. Maybe a little less, but you can see it. I will take it apart again tomorrow and check to see if they are tight against their snap rings. To be honest with you, I don't remember any snap rings, but at this point I'm not sure I remember anything. It was just best to walk away from it for a while. Nick makes it look so easy in the video and I'm sure the drive sleeve assembly has been in and out of the display several times and goes back in by hand. Of course the cut away display helps to. This is the first time that the poly v been has needed replaced so it took some force to get the drive sleeve out and I'm sure the bearings could have moved.
Billmayo, I have tried to upload a picture and it keeps telling me that the upload fail, so I'm doing something wrong there. After taking it apart again, I see the snap rings. The back bearing is up against the snap ring. However, the front bear is about 1/8 of and inch away from the snap ring. If it was up against the snap ring the retaining ring will go in without a problem. It appears as if it slipped forward when putting it back in. I will have to wait until tomorrow to get a deep well socket to use to put it back in as there isn't anything open here today. Small town and the closest real shopping is 110 miles away. I think that will solve my problem. I do appreciate your helpfullness and knowledge. Thank you.

Tried pushing by hand? It is probably just slightly cocked, and a nudge on the appropriate side will allow it to slide. You might also insert it into the headstock bore just far enough to hold it and rock the shaft while gently pushing. You may be able to insert the retaining spring first then push the bearing onto the small lip and then 'rock/push'.rolands wrote:Thanks for the suggestion, but I had already thought of that and couldn't find anything the right size.
