Reading my local newspaper this morning and reading Andy Rooney Column. He was telling some of his greatest gifts gotten for Christmas. One of coarse was a Buddy L Truck gotten as a child. The interesting one was that he received a woodworking tool while working for Arthur Godfrey. He also mentioned this gift was a Shopsmith..
His words......One of the great all-time presents was give to me by Arthur Godfrey in about 1954, when I was working for him. He gave me A woodworking tool called a Shopsmith. It must have cost a bundle at that timeand I couldn't have been happier..........
I always read Andy Rooney column, as I like his dry humor........
Just thought I should pass this along to the group........

i do know that andy is woodworker. he made the big wanut desk that he sits at on 60 minutes. ty for sharing.

I've seen it reported before that he had a Shopsmith.

He'd make a great spokesman. Maybe Shopsmith can trade him some free ads in exchange for a Mark 7!

That was a great issue of AW!
I loved the article on Andy Rooney and the last article/opinion about fractions vs the metric system had me shaking my head yes a few times.

If fractions of an inch and the metric system have you in a quandary, you can try a third approach with a Bobsrule that divides the inch into 24 parts. It makes those fractions of an inch so much easier to work with. For details look here: http://www.whitechapel-ltd.com/hardware ... rule.shtml

It doesn't look like Bob's measuring tapes are available now, however.

The newspaper article mentions 1954, but the AW story mentions '51. Both of them mention Arthur Godfrey, though

MkV or ER?

We know that Edgar Bergen used an ER. I've got a picture of him with Charlie McCarthy, and Mortimer Snerd, around his ER. (It always freaks out my women friends, when I show them that pic, and then show them my ER. Especially, when they find out that Charlie is Candace Bergen's big brother!)

I love this Bob's Rule idea and had never heard of it before reading your post. The problem though is everything is in fractions so you still have to convert to use it unless i am missing something stupid??? The price of the rulers is insane though. $62.00 for a 12" ruler and $191.00 for a 36" ..........yeeeoooow thatis a lot of dough for a ruler. they do have an economy version that is a little more reasonable at 12" fro $10.00.
