Not in my shop in this location at this time of the year you wouldn't...
4 degrees out this morning. the shop is at about 40 degrees right now.
I normally work in steel toe waffle stompers most of the time. Largely because of working with the horses each day. I find it makes one of them standing on my toes a much quieter situation.
They also happen to be the most comfortable pair of shoes I own for standing on a concrete floor.
I almost forgot to mention the 400' walk to the shop through the drifting snow...

It's a great looking shelf and the pictures really do a good job of showing the detail you put into it. I like that you finished it and rounded the edges instead of just leaving it rough. Keep us updated on the back shelf design and build.

Yes, it shows the extra work.
I am as guilty as anybody of not putting enough effort into how the shop or various shop furniture items and jigs look. I'm too prone to just cobble something together and if it works as planned I just keep using it.
Saturday while I was trying to figure out where in the blazes to put some stuff I absently (I do a lot of things absently these days) picked up a common feather board I had made and noticed that it was rough on the back end because I had done nothing to that end when I made it. I walked over to the scroll saw and after marking the back corners using a small roll of electrical tape as a pattern to mark it I cut them round. I then walked over to my i'x42' belt sander and sanded it smooth. It seems almost silly to think how much satisfaction I got from that tiny effort... I for one need to do a "LOT" more of that.

I can relate to those! When you make it you need it B4NOW! Finishing it off after determining it is a 'keeper' is a taking pride thing!

A question though, do you find a problem reaching the casters now? Or bump your shins while moving the SS around?
The best thing about the shelf is having your most used items right there. I think you will notice less looking around for stuff and faster working.
I have a shelf on my SS also and got tired of bumping my shins with the casters. I finally reversed the casters so the levers were in the back of the SS and I lock them in from the back and it works so much better.

Funny, I had the shelf on a 500 and also got tired of bumping my shins. I ended up mounting the shelf on the back side of the machine.

Will it fit 'in the middle'? Mount on inside of rear?

Nice job on the shelf. I have also been thinking about putting a shelf system on my SS. I had drawn up one for each side. I have not seen any thing on the weight capacity of the caster system. I am concerned that if I add the tables and some of the extras I have it could be an issue. I have been planning to check with customer service tech support but it has been one of those things I need to do.
Make today a day that lets you smile!
