Saturday and Sunday my family helped me begin moving into the new shop. Most of the time was grunting and lifting. Saturday also included moving my pair of 520's from the basement to the new shop. Sunday I asked them to assist me with installing the new Power Pro headstock. All went well until we discovered the upper tubes would not lock into place after the install. My son, daughter and her male friend all had very definite opinions regarding the cause. It became clear to my wife and I that my input was not desired. We had a ball watching them try different approaches to the problem. I noted that one tube had been slid too far to one end and finally managed to illustrate why I felt that was the case. Once we all agreed upon that point we also became aware that the legs were splayed out to a point the wheels would not allow the Mark V's feet to sit solidly on the floor. My son decided the best means to solve all issues was to set the lower tubes on blocks where the ends could not touch the floor. Then loosen and adjust the tubes and be certain the legs were positioned appropriately. When the blocks were removed all was well on both accounts. Imagine how thrilled I was to hear okay we checked that one out now lets repeat the process on the other 520. My bottom line here being really proud that the kids are taking an interest in dads new shop and more importantly his prised tools. My daughter, her friend and granddaughter have enjoyed using my tools. Now my son is bubbling about the new sewing room furniture he and I will make for my bride of forty years. Clearly life is good. fjimp:):D;)

It seems as if woodworker's distaff "halves" are frequently involved in sewing. For Christmas I made a 33"x48" sewing table for two. This will be used for my daughter's every growing quilt group. She recently bought a Singer Featherweight table at a garage sale that had been horribly abused. I'm now re-furbing it. Hopefully everyone in the quilt group will now have a place to sew.

Hey, this story is really well told and really touching. It would have been fun to see a picture of the whole group. Hope to see a picture of the new shop.

Yeah I second the call for pictures of the new shop. Frankly until you show us pictures I tend to feel your shop is a figment of your imagination.

Yes I saw the pictures of the hole you made in the yard but no shop pictures, all we know for certain is that you are the proud owner of a hole in the yard

Here's another - Do you know what Humor is?

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

The same can be said for Sarcasm and Humor.

The difficult part is properly interpreting the intent!

Great story and I'll add my own. My older son (24) got me several pen kits and some dart turning kits for Christmas. He came out to the shop with me and learned how to use my lathe and turned one of the dart shafts himself. He really enjoyed the process and seeing his results. Hopefully I have a new woodworking partner. Unfortunately my 15 yo son has not quite engaged with wood yet and really dislikes helping the old man in the workshop. I still drag him out to help me on larger projects that require out feed help, installation help, and such. He'll learn one way or another how to use and respect tools. I do see with my older son that there is hope and therefore hope with the younger one as well.

Okay I have read this several times and still feel the wise approach is none at all. Whether I understand or not is not the issue. I simply seem to prefer to not comment. Fjimp

It seems to me that one mans figment is another mans reality. Pictures will be forthcoming. Life here seems to be moving faster than this man can cope with. Although the building is complete and moved into we still are working through the last inspection. No problems just a matter of communication. Our son's moving in has been a pleasure yet added additional chores as well as adjusting available space for an extra person and three very active cats, and would you believe requiring that I learn to be more flexible.

The pictures have for the most part been taken now need to be downloaded from the camera and shrunk. Picture shrinking is not my long suit. The boss lady has agreed to take care of that. fjimp
