There are just some tools that I like to "rescue" at yard/garage sales when the price is too low and planes are one of them. I buy very few tools at flea markets since they tend to be too much $$$$. I was moving them in the shop last week and counted 17 of them, that meant that at least 4 of them are missing. I noticed that one that was missing was my favorite smooth plane which has an oversize front knob that I made because the original was missing. That means that the missing ones are likely still in one of a couple of big plastic tool carriers that I pack tools in to take them to the Conner Prairie living history museum each fall for live demos. Those carriers and a couple of boxes of hand tools are still buried over in a back corner. I may quarry my way back to them today.
Bit braces are also in that category too. I have maybe 20 of them. I rarely pay more than $2 or $3 for a plane or bit brace. Of course I would pay much more for for any specialty plane, what I have are pretty common.
My wife gets a little annoyed at me sometimes when I look at a hammer at a sale. She will say "why are you looking at a hammer, you already own dozens and dozens of them". Invariably I will respond "yes, but I don't own this one". Her next move is to roll her eyes and walk away knowing it will probably be riding home with us. I buy a lot of $1 or $2 hammers.
I have a lot of pliers that still have a .50 cent yard sale price sticker on them since I like to keep them in my old tractors and vehicles and hanging in several of my farm buildings. I do lose a few of them too out working on fences etc. I also like to keep a small ball-pein hammer and about a 12" adjustable wrench in each old tractor. I have several such wrenches with $2 stickers on them. Very few say "made in China", most are names like Crescent or Diamalloy etc.
I want to look in the loft this week in my tool box collection I have stacked up there for an proper tool box for the electric EZ-Go golf cart I use daily around the farm. The little dash tray just won't hold enough.
Did I ever mention that I am kind of a tool freak?

An estate auction is a good place to find planes, but some auctioneers list them under 'collectibles' rather than 'tools'.
Outstanding tools! I must inform you that I must hate you now! (kidding), I dont have that fence you have. I have looked for years for an old one. Most "non-woodworkers" don't have a clue what it is, and toss them. You lucky dog! jimsjinx
I dont want to steel this thread, but by reading it, I may have re-discovered a few of my tools and I should restore them to the glory of the name on it.
The first three are Stanleys, the big wood one is even marked Baileys made by stanley rule and level
The last one is another brand that I do not know is a Roxton.
That first one looks like a Stanley 2. If it is it is worth some money. Check for a number on the cast iron. Also look at the stamp on the blade. Different stamps are worth more.

So, I just looked it up. I need another picture but it could even be a Stanley 1 which is worth quite a bit of money. 1's didn't have a number on them nor a lateral adjustment. Without really seeing it in better light or against a ruler from top down it's hard to tell. #2's were 7 inches long.
If you have an original #1 or 2 by all means do not refinish it. It's worth more as it is than finished. Yes, these are the collector planes and the #1 should seem almost impossible to use for a full adult male hand.
