A sticky suggestion
As all of you well know, there are certain questions and topics that come up repeatedly. The result is we all end up reading the same advice over and over. In particular, I've noticed the warm welcome to new owners who come to this forum because they really don't know yet what it is they've bought/inherited/etc.
I think a sticky at the top of the maintenance section that gave all the usual references to information for new owners would save us all a lot a energy. You know the kind of stuff I'm talking about (and I'm open to good additions to this):
The cardinal rule - NEVER EVER EVER turn the speed dial without the machine running or turning the spindle by hand.
Watch (several times over) the Sawdust Session on ......
Ok, so now I'm drawing a blank, but you guys get the idea.
Now, off my soap box and back to something important. The good news.... I've made some sawdust the last 2 days!! I got to use my SS as a horizontal boring machine!! Actually, I think this, and the bandsaw attachment, are about the two best things about an SS.

Sticky Possiblity
If the moderators don't see fit to put one up, I suggest making a new owner page in the wiki. I know when I first go to a forum, I don't read those anyway. If all that info was posted on the wiki, it would take one link with a welcome.
Great thinking, Fiatben!

Nice
Nice start, JPG. I should've known you'd be the one to take the ball and run with it. I really look forward to a community effort to give a single place to refer the SS newbies to as they start their grand adventure.JPG40504 wrote:The deed has been done! As for the "sticky" part, I had noticed that most forums, often using this same software, had "stickies" that stayed at the top of a particular sub-forum that was usually the basic information most people originally surfed to that forum to find. Thought there must be a better way than for you guys to answer the same basic question 100 times over.
Me, I'm still learning....

DDVAN79 is obviously a man of many talents! He has chosen to compile several previous posts(content) into a single location for useful information. One is the wiki site previously indicated. He has suggested some other 'things' also.
He is trying to help newer members of this tribe by sharing the vast amount of research he undertook while and prior to refurbing his 'inherited' goldie.
We need to support him as we can!
P.S. The sticky is an admin function/option.

I can't take credit for it. Damagi started the wiki.JPG40504 wrote:DDVAN79 is obviously a man of many talents!
