Using CA finish on flat surface???
I use CA as a finish on pens. But I have never tried to use it on pieces not on the lathe. I am doing some wooden jewelry for a friend and was wondering if any one had applied CA to flat surfaces. If so are there any suggestions? I am going to give it a try. I will let you know how it goes.

Thanks nuhobby. I thought there was at least one person out there that had tried CA on some thing other than on the lathe. I had made some Magnolia Wood pens this Christmas and the person I made those for wants some wooden jewelry. Other finish I have used on jewelry for my wife have dull pretty fast next to the sin. I am going to give it a try.nuhobby wrote:A couple years ago, I built up some CA finish on an old pocket-knife on which I had laid a couple pieces of flat walnut-burl veneer. I just built up 2-3 CA layers and then sanded them finer and finer. Really it didn't come out bad at all.

A couple of years ago I was experimenting with a cheap Chinese made bass guitar. I removed the frets and inlaid strips of maple in their place. Finished the whole fretboard with CA glue. No special technique, used gel type CA glue and spread it around with small disposable brushes. When it felt like it was going to kick over and stick I quickly removed the brush and started over with a fresh one. After several coats I sanded down to about 2000 grit with a sanding block made to the same radius as the fretboard. Worked quite well, made a decent playing fretless.
Not exactly a flat surface but pretty close. I do use CA quite a bit on pens.
