DIY Pocket Hole Jig Question

New to my shopsmith Mark V.. I'm wondering if any of our SS Members have built a pocket hole jig for drill press use? And if so, How's it working out for ya?

I have looked at several jigs on the market, and the Kreg is looking good for the stand alone hand drill.

Any body? Give me your pros and cons, I have an inquiring mind that needs to know.

I have the Kreg Master System, and couldn't be happier with it! while you certainly can drill pocket holes with the SS, the Kreg system is very easy to set up and accurately drill the holes.

The Shopsmith works well for pocket holes that have all been preplanned but if assembly has already started and one needs a pocket hole drilled the Kreg wins hands down.

Using the Kreg system also does not necessitate a set up or tear down.

I love the Kreg system. I have a couple of the clamps, the flat one and the one that fits in the hole. I don't have the fancy outfit, the little single works so well that I am having trouble coming up with a good excuse to buy the better outfit. I might sneak it onto my wish list and maybe it will just appear someday.

One of my wife's brothers has one that he made years ago out of a hunk of brass stock. It serves him well.

I been thinking the same as Dusty.
While looking for a drill press pocket hole jig plan. I found this plan at Bobsplans.com

Have any of our SS users made this jig?

Yet another who finds the Kreg thingie so darn easy to use that I can't see any reason to want a drill press or shopsmith version.

If I was going to make a pocket hole jig to use for the Shopsmith, I would tilt the table to the appropriate angle and proceed from there. I am assuming that you are drilling a series of holes. Any easy way to do this would be to use an oriental square to align the bit and the table.

However, I prefer to use the Kreg system as well. I believe it is money well spent. Once you get in the habit of using it, you'll wonder how you got along without it.

Although I have (and use) a Kreg pocket hole guide set, the Shopsmith is a natural for drilling pocket holes (angular holes) in smaller pieces. It is demonstrated in Power Tool Woodworking for Everyone in the chapter on the drill press. Here is a link to the online version. See figure 7-33 for details.

Good link, Thank You. This is chapter from the book Power Tool Woodworking for Everyone. Book is now on my list to buy. First infact and then the Kreg Pockethole Jig.
