The main part of my woodshop is 24' x 48' but until a few weeks ago I still couldn't do it.

What brand motor is it? (Emerson,GE,A.O.Smith)robinson46176 wrote:If it turns OK by hand the next step is to check the centrifugal starting switch in the motor. Sawdust often gets in the contact points. It can be caused by a dead capacitor but really only rarely. That starting switch acting up is pretty common on many motors that operate in dusty conditions (not to be confused with Dusty's woodshop in Tucson AZ).
Patom, patom wrote:Hi, Im new to these forums and have recently retired. I finally have a basement that I can stand erect in, with enough room to turn a 16' board around without taking it outside and carrying it back into the mancave. I have owned my MKV for 31 years and have only used it a few times. I got into a project recently and used the jointer, belt sander, moritse tools, drum sander, band saw, quite a bit. At the end of this project it seems the motor just doesn't want to go.
How hard is it to replace a motor and where can I get one to fit this 31 year old MK V. Any tips would be highly appreciated. Thanks
PS: the number stamped on the headstock vent is SS 143431 not sure if that is the unit serial #.
Just saw this on the 'bay:SDSSmith wrote:There are a number of members that have upgraded to the PowerPro who might be willing to part with their old motor. Motors also come up on FEEbay.
I think Bill Mayo will do the same thing for you but I don''t know how much he charges.nsmith01tx wrote:Just saw this on the 'bay:

I guess it's $95 (after core deposit refund) ... it sounds like you could turn in a 3/4 hp for core value and get a 1 1/8 hp.
I don't know the seller and have no vested interest one way or another. Just thought it interesting.
Thanks Dusty. Yes, I rebuild a few customer's motors or sell rebuilt motors with or without a trade-in. Many of the AO Smith or GE 1 1/8 HP motors I sell are set up to use 110 VAC or 220 VAC input power and can be reversible. The FWD/REV switch will be located on the side of the motor pan. I will be happy to answer any questions.dusty wrote:I think Bill Mayo will do the same thing for you but I don''t know how much he charges.
The seller's name is Simon Eng and he is located in Anaheim, CA. I have met this seller personally, purchased parts from him and highly recommend him. He does quality work and stands behind it.nsmith01tx wrote:Just saw this on the 'bay:
