I was there (SD) for about a week back in 1960 and absolutely loved it. I had a couple of good friends that in 1961-62 were driving new school buses across country from the several bus factories that used to be here in Central Indiana. The bus company paid them "very" well. SD was one steady destination and they were going to set me up with a trip there. I was going to make it a one way trip and just move there. If I couldn't find a job there I was going to just keep transporting buses until I could but live there. We were waiting for good weather and in march 1962 I met my wife... Plans changed.

It is snowing here now, but that is a nice change from the -18 degrees we had the last 4 nights! We get that once in a while, but really not very often. I have some small appreciation for your plight Farmer. Without a doubt the coldest place I ever spent a winter was in Georgia. AIT at FT Benning in 1968,I nearly froze my BBBBBBBeak off! We have looked at warmer places and always seem t come back to where we are. Sort of like the old political saying " He is an SOB, but he is our SOB". SD has its own " issues".

Last I talked to him he was having snow falling at 4 inches an hour. He said at that rate you can't even see through it to tell how bad you are snowed in.
I told him I felt for him we were a little chilly too, wasn't quite 70.

Up there they usually call that a "lake effect snow area". They call it that because they don't allow the weather guy to refer to it as a "usually snowing like hell area"...

Farmer we awoke to a cold but sunny sky. I manged to complete numerous chores before I walked outside a couple of hours ago and felt a few snow flakes. That was about two inches ago. Thus my next chore is to gas up and check the oil on the snow blower, before I position it at the garage door for use Sunday before church. Jimrobinson46176 wrote:OH JOY!! More #$%& snow...
