Mark V Cleanup Shopping List

Spent the day reassembling my bandsaw and headstock paying special attention to missing, broken or inappropriate hardware. So far the list is as follows

• 4 mismatched bolts to attach the SS legs
• 2 missing casters
• 4 missing bolts to attach extension table to the legs
• Missing set screw on the disc sander arbor

Headstock

• Motor drive belt
• Missing fan sheave spacer
• New quill bearing
• New speed changer

Bandsaw

• 1 missing bolt and washer to attach the table to bandsaw
• New guide bearings
• New guide coolblocks (still not sure if the original blocks are cool blocks or not, there's pics in my bandsaw thread if someone can tell me if they are cool blocks)

Then there's this mess with no bolts. I still haven't figured out if it actually belongs to the shopsmith together or not.

The service and repair parts catalog exploded views weren't much use in figuring it out. Any ideas would be great.

The bolts, washers, and set screws I'll probably find at the local hardware store. We have one here that has every conceivable bolt, screw or washer imaginable. Most of the remaining bearings run nice and smooth, a couple could run better but will work for the time being. Any other tips on things to change or take a second look at while I've got it in pieces would be appreciated.

I think this may be what you need. With the upgrades over the years, the SS site doesn't always have a parts breakdown of what your machine is.

For the extension table mounting bolts, I recommend you use threaded studs(Allthread?) and 8 nuts and 8 flatwashers(thicker the better). That will provide an ability to align the ext table at all 4 stud locations.

I see a lower saw guard and a matching upper saw guard there. Its the older style. What I don't see is a question mark looking bracket that attaches to the two holes on the lower saw guard, which would then connect to the bracket on the upper saw guard. There might be some other missing pieces too.

From the pic I saw, you have steel guide blocks. Bill Mayo does sell ceramic blocks for the SS Band saw.

Bill Mayo sells pretty much everything you could possibly need. If he doesn't I'm sure he would make it:D

yep, agreed, old style saw guard, back before someone had the notion to make a plastic top so you could actually see what you were cutting

They look like steel guides to me. Cool blocks are a phenolic like material and not metal.
