Band Saw Blades

I am looking for metal cutting (Bi-Metal) bandsaw blades for my newly acquired SS bandsaw. Does anyone have a source for this? I was looking on the McMaster Carr website and they have some blades but I am not sure of the exact size. I believe the SS uses 72" blades but can you use one that is a little longer than that and adjust? They have some 80" models but I fear that may be too long to take of the slack.

Check out PS Wood Machines. They sell the Timber Wolf Brand blades and are the best as far as I am concerned.

And I found a very helpful video on that site that should me how to roll up my unused bandsaw blades which was giving me a real headache trying to figure it out.

The Shopsmith blades are 72". I've used blades that are 71 3/4" without any problems, but you must compensate when adjusting the tension. I've also used ones that are 72 5/8", the latter only in the narrower blade width as proper tension for the wider blades is problematic. Cutting aluminum is no problem with the proper blade on the Shopsmith, but for mild steel you'll probably need some additional speed reduction. Some suppliers weld them up to whatever size you want, so you can order them at 72" and still use the Shopsmith tension settings. Olson, Morse and Lennox make quality blades, as do others.

Check in your local yellow pages. It is very common to have band-saw blades custom welded to size.
