Powerpro idlershaft alignment

Those holes are for the drive hub guard.JPG40504 wrote:Has SS cs seen these pix? Some pix of the headstock casting with the belt cover removed may tell a tale! The misalignment of the upper shaft is unusual. Needless to say the idler shaft situation is also unusual.
You may have a 'malformed' belt cover.
Interesting threaded holes between the two shaft holes!!!!!

Double bummer!!! Pray tell how are they knowing how to respond????? Tell her to ask Jim McCann if he wants pix!dig wrote:The holes are for a safety shroud. They sent me a picture of it, but not the shroud itself.
I asked Linda twice (at SS) if she would like me to send pictures of this but she declined.

Geez! how have I existed this long without one of those! Must be real handy when hub removal is necessary - or the ptwfe index plate needs to be 'mounted'.SDSSmith wrote:Those holes are for the drive hub guard.

Hi again, Dig! since you have not yet mounted your PowerPro, you could call and ask for another headstock, as the belt cover on your current one clearly doesn't fit. They will pay for your return of the current one. You'll have to call and work out the details with them.
As said in my last post, these issues look like they are fixable at home. You would have to try moving the tinneman clips that hold the belt cover to see if you can raise the cover a slight bit. One of your photos looks like the upper shaft is now clear from the cover. BTW, you just can't mis-align the upper shaft. It is held in place by the headstock casting , bearings and a clip on the outside.
Concerning the lower shaft - YES! This is what mine looked like after it came back from being repaired. I'm now sure that shaft has slipped inward - probably from shipping pressure. A fix is enumerated in that post. (#8)
The box probably said "this side up", but with handling the 83 lbs.,- - I watched the delivery guy roll the box down the stairs of the truck.

Hi Charlese,
I have been authorized to try the adjustment you mentioned. If it works then I won't have to ship it back. If not SS said they would replace it. I did not get the installation manual for the internal parts since it was new. I have an operators manual, and I have directions that Linda gave me over the phone. I wanted to get others opinions before I dove into this. Maybe it won't be a big deal (I hope). I am a little bummed about it, after being excited when it first arrived. And I did have it mounted when I first noticed the problem.

OK. I removed the cover, loosened a big allen bolt, turned a slotted bushing(?), pulled the shaft out until it stopped at a small washer, went clockwise on the bushing and re-tightened the allen bolt. The shafts look to be in acceptable positions with relation to the belt cover holes.
Then I discover there is abrasion on the end of quill feed pinion. So I inspected the bottom of the shipping box and see a hole where the pinion was likely poking through. It's rough life being a headstock.
I remounted it on the waytubes and turned it on. It seems to run fine.
