Bandsaw upgrades

I wonder if the Carter folks gave those instructions for a typical band saw like the Delta 14", as they clearly are contrary to how one sets up a Shopsmith band saw. On the Shopsmith, the lower back-up bearing touches the back of the blade, while the upper back-up bearing does NOT. The upper bearing only touches the blade while you're cutting wood.

Thanks to everyone for your comments.

I have been having a lot of difficulty with my bandsaw alignment and suppose I was looking for an ea$y fix. My biggest problem has been with adjusting the tilt on the upper guide arm. The bearing is either perfect when low, but way off when high, or perfect when raised but pushing against the blade when down. Can't seem to get it right ! Yeah, I've read the manual.......

That is indeed a very frustrating experience. A secret is to adjust in very small increments - loosening one, backing out the screw, securing the nut, then loosening the other, advancing the screw and securing the nut.

Repeat until 'correct'.

BTW the carter guide would not compensate for that!!!!
