edge sander?

edge sander?
Greetings: Has anyone managed to set up a Shopsmith belt sander as an edge sander. I.e. with the belt abrasive surface running right to left (or left to right) at a right angle to a horizontal bench?
Thanks

Mount a SPT storage base on a vertical surface (behind with the bs in 'horizontal' position). Power hookup - flexible shaft/coupling from below?

You can put the fence on it in the side and add an auxiliary fence to acheive this. That makes it more vertical than not.
You might be able to tip the shopsmith into the vertical position in this config, but I think you wouldneed the motor running backwards to get the belt sander going in the correct direction.

The belt sander is mountable on either end, and is correctly driven from each since the power attachment shafts are on both ends.damagi wrote:You can put the fence on it in the side and add an auxiliary fence to acheive this. That makes it more vertical than not.

Interesting positioning! One could run a 'table' right up to it. Just do not tell CSPC about this! Fingers are not my concern here!!!!

Do you mean you want your belt sander to run vertically? From ceiling to floor?
Octogenarian's have an earned right to be a curmudgeon.

That ain't what he meant. He wants to be able to edge sand a flat workpiece by setting it flat on the table with the 'edges' vertical and the belt sander running l-r(or r-l) and the width of the belt vertical.judaspre1982 wrote:I thought the same thing but I waited for someone else to ask the ?:D

At least that is what I thought he meant!
