Extendable wooden slides for drawers

Sometime in very recent months I read a (whatever) that described making extendable drawer slides that allowed full extension of the drawer and required very narrow strips used as the slides.

Either I did not 'save' it or I stored it in an unlikely place that I cannot recall.

As I recall the 'article' it involved a buffet. It also told the tale of a woodworking competition where a very talented participant was penalized for using metal drawer slides.

Anybody recognize it? If so HELP!

I now have a need to be making wooden drawer slides that allow full extension of the drawer(very shallow drawer). I think I have come up with a 'method', but would really like to review that article.

Fine Woodworking #143 had an article about wood slides, though not the one you mention. Here is a photo taken on pg2 of the article:

Of course it is helpful! A couple of 'different' approaches. The one I am 'looking' for however allowed drawer removal and reinsertion.

I am having to rabbet the sides of the 'carcus' as the fixed outer piece. * The drawer side is also rabbeted(dovetail). The 'intermediate' slide is matching dovetail on the drawer side and square to the carcus rabbet.

BTW the drawers are 2'wide x 1' deep ' 3/4" high! May have to increase the 3/4". It will have 12 drawers, and I want to keep overall height down.

I may rabbet the outside of the intermediate slide and pin the carcus rabbet for a stop.

The dovetail is 1/4". This will be quite exacting work. I haven't decided what species to use for the intermediate slide.

* I may decide to glue slides to carcus sides rather than rabbet. I haven't decided how thick the sides will be.

I be open for any suggestions.

I believe that the design offered by Peter allows for the drawer to be removed and reinserted. Or am I misunderstanding the need?

After I posted that, I concluded that the design is intended to be stacked and that the divider above provides the support for the top rear of the drawer when fully extended. The drawer could indeed be dropped in/out of the 'intermediate' slide.

Peter's post is very similar to the one I was thinking about as I recall it.
