Upgrade of 500 to 510

Is it worth upgrading a 500 to a 510? What 500 accessories can be adapted to the 510? What do I gain from the upgrade?

If you"re thinking of upgrading, why not go to a 520 instead? Better rip fence and rail system.

Accessories like sanding disk and saws may have to have different {longer} arbours but sanding drum, drill chuck, lathe related stuff should transfer fine, as will all the spt's.

Any accessories that depend upon the unique features of the 500 are not compatible. i.e. Anything that attaches to the front of the table or the 500 fence. The 510 fence has the two holes through the sides of the fence, but the 520 does not. Neither has the 5/8"hole in the top of the fence. There is a 505-20 mortise hold down post that mounts on top of those fences.

There may be others, but I am not recalling them at the moment. Actually those gizmos are not needed as much with the larger table.

I would not let concern for 'compatibility' deter your serious considering an upgrade. 520 cost more 'now' but upgrading twice costs even more.

The difference between the 510 and 520 are the fence(a big difference) and the rails(round vs box). The 520 was created to 'cure' some 510 shortcomings.

Oh Yeah! The arbor 'issue'.
