headstock lock issues

My father just passed along his Shopsmith 510 to me, and I'm having some trouble with it. I've cleaned, oiled, and waxed it. The problem I have now is that the headstock is locked in place. Turning the handle didn't have any effect so I opened it up and found that the wedge locks weren't moving. I have cut the rod in 2 and removed it,but I can't get the wedge locks free of the housing. Any advice would be appreciated. I just placed an order for a new headstock lock and wedge locks. Thanks!!

They will not come out as long as the way tubes are there. That means the headstock must be removed from the way tubes to remove them.

Wait til the new locks arrive, then do what ya gotta do!:)

I have never had to do it, but what prevents the wedge locks from being removed when mounted on the tubes. They press out on the tubes to lock. With the rod removed, I would try "tapping" from the outside on the wedges using an appropriately sized wooden dowel and a persuader (dead blow hammer, etc.). I would think that the wedges could be driven into the headstock cavity.

The Mark 5/V locks move into the way tubes from the outside. This is the opposite from the Model 10. The wedges have a collar on the inner end which prevents them from being pulled out. Thus when the way tubes are present, they are captive.
