Try the character map. It can be kind of a pain to use, but you can copy & paste the symbols you are looking for.

If you have Windows Vista, type "character map" on the start menu search bar.

If you have XP, click Start --> All Programs --> Accessories --> System Tools --> Character Map

[º°¢£&#937] All these and many many more. Look for 'charmap.exe'.

You will find it in \windows\system32 folder.

Rightclick it and drag n drop on desktop. select create shortcut.

From then on you can click on it, pick the font etc., and copy character(s) to the clipboard and subsequently paste them into whatever.

it's *only* been 3.5 weeks for my order, but in a world where even the cheapest shipping options from buy.com and amazon get you your stuff in less than a week, and in a world where nearly every other ecommerce site sends weekly updates on backorder status (or at least has more info on the order status page), the lack of data is ridiculous for a company that wants to keep its customers

ss cust svc is slow to respond, and the responses are short - it's like trying to pull teeth to get info - turns out 2 of my 3 parts are on backorder - fine SS you should have proactively told me that! at least send the one part you have, it's small enough to stick in an envelope and it means I can finally use my *&^$^%# saw!

SS charges us premium prices on everything but in my experience cust svc is severely lacking

Bought, restored and sold a 520 before I knew what I had (and should have kept) - Now I found religion and I'm working on restoring a 500 and a 10E.

Not on my computer. Using the Alt key with any other character, while attempting to post a message on the forum, kicks me out of the forum.

On my computer, while editing a Word document, I get special characters but not the ones listed.

These are some of what I get:

Alt + 254 = ■
Alt + 253 = ²
Alt + 252 = ⁿ
Alt + 251 = √
Alt + 250 = ·
Alt + 249 = ∙
Alt + 248 = °
Alt + 247 = ≈
Alt + 246 = ÷
Alt + 245 = ⌡

I guess there must be many different ways to do this. What confuses me is why my keyboard is different.

dusty wrote:I hope you conveyed to Shopsmith the fact that you were canceling because of the long wait. They need to be told that many times. I wait when I can but that is not always.

If you can order by phone, ask when they expect to deliver - they will tell you if it is going to back order. I don't believe they have ever deceived me.

Ordering as you do, from over seas, I don't know how that works. Do you call or is this strictly an email transaction.

I've never tried to get a status report by other than phone. I don't know how that works.
It's strictly website ordering. I could call, but the time difference is immense and the charges for such a call can be quite a bit. When I cancelled I conveyed to them that the wait was just too much.

They are relatively quick with email replies and that does help, but they're not always thorough with an explanation. The last email string with them was not the best. I asked them why they hadn't updated me on the wait in five months, I then asked them to please fill me in on the wait time if the part was still not in stock. I asked them to please not just say that the part was on backorder with no delivery date and they replied that the part was on backorder with no delivery date  Not the best reply they could've given.

I'm sure they understand my frustration.

You can get the stronghold chuck from other suppliers. I got mine through Rockler and waited until they had a 20% off sale. It came in a few days.
As far as the adapter goes, I ordered mine right through oneway mfg. It also
came in a few days. I know it is nice to try and keep your business with SS
but sometimes things take forever. You can sometimes save money if you shop around like I did.

I waited months and months for a simple on/off switch once. Very frustrating to say the least.

Is this the adapter that would be required to mount a Oneway Chuck on the Shopsmith Mark V?
