Franklin Electric motor disassembly

I have a Franklin Electric motor that I am trying to disassemble to change the bearings anyone know how to get the back bearing off? Oh and how about a replacement bearing #77502-16?

Won't the armature shaft come out of the center race of the bearing? It should. And then remove the two yellow screws that are visible in photo 1 and 3 to remove the bearing retainer.

In the last phot you can see a gold colored screw. That screw holds the bearing into the end casing. I can't get that screw out there's no room. The "electric board" (for lack of a proper term) is in the way to get a screw driver on it. How the heck did they get this thing together? I can't get the armature to come out of the bearing and there is not enough room to put a bearing puller on it with out the high probablity of breaking the "electric board" (someone tell me the proper name please I feel liek a moron)

I was thinking of drilling a small hole in the end of the casing to punch thru on the shaft but that seems a little extreme at this early point.

If you can clamp the end plate to a work bench using some hand screw clamps. Then put some penetrating oil like Kroil around the bearing and wait for the oil to do it's thing. Then try to pull the armature shaft out of the bearing by rocking it back and forth SLIGHTLY while maintaining an upward pressure. The board is part of the "centrifugal switch " assembly.

When the flyweights are moved to their outer position, will the 'circuit board' move away from the head of the bearing retaining screws enough to 'get at them'?

I would not be concerned with any part numbers on the 'old' bearings. Measure the old ones and the shaft and bearing bore. I would guess 17 x 40 x 12 mm with MAYBE a 5/8" id.


However the real problem is that the armature shaft is stuck in the bearing.

Make a 'frame' so that the armature etc. can be suspended with the motor end cap resting on the frame. Then raise the motor slightly and drop it back onto the frame. The intent is to cause the inertia of the heavy armature to cause the shaft to work its way out of the bearing. Make sure it will not be able to 'fall too far' and get damaged! It is important to keep all this motion in a straight line so as to not get it 'cocked'.

JPG That did it! got her off.

As for the Bearings Bill Mayo is taking care of me there, almost get the old greenie back to better than new condition.

Well! That did not take too long! :):):)

I be curious if the bearings are 5/8 id. I do not think so, but the '-16' makes me suspicious.

According to Bill "The Master" Mayo:cool: The 77502-16 is a 6202 - 16mm X 35mm X 11mm

soooo since 5/8" is about 15.88mm I'll go with yep.
