Then make the choice to go purchase the SawStop for yourself and leave the rest of us to decide if we want to do the same or not. Some regulation is a good thing but I don't know where the line is that crosses into excessive regulation like the SawStop proposal. Any regulation is a slippery slope. Once the politicians taste power, they crave more. The next logical step is to outlaw table saws all together.

I don't think that's a commonly held belief. Maybe I'm wrong. I do agree with you that's not true.
you can't outlaw stupidity, you can't mandate intelligence and you can't stop the legal profession (lawyers and politicians) from trying to force us all to the lowest common denominator.

Sorry. Kind of a touchy subject. I find so often that the truth usually lies somewhere in the middle but there doesn't seem to be much reasonable middle ground to be had in this argument. So I took a leap in the wrong direction.
I stand by a statement I made on this forum several years ago. I think we would be better off if we just picked 7 guys at random from this forum to lead the country than we are now. ( all political parties included). There is a LOT of wisdom here. There is also more civil discussion and disagreement her than I see other places as well.

My neighbor an expert upholsterer and having 50+ years experience just sawed his thumb. BAD!
Apparently the wood he was using to fix a chair got stuck and wouldn't feed through the saw. He couldn't see why and figured a little more pressure would solve the problem. So he shoved it. What ever was holding the wood popped loose and the wood and his thumb go force feed into the blade.
As you can imagine a 1/8' blade entering the thumb from the tip made a mess of his thumb. I will talk to him about it more to get a better idea of what and how it happened.
I'm just a little shook that some like this could happen to him.
