Bigsky: There is some value brought about by the t-slot. It serves as sort of a virtual extension of the table in which it is being used. In the case of the table saw, it allows some stability when attempting to cross cut larger pieces (say 15"-16").

I try not to do what is depicted in these images because it can lead to some binding (kickback) if not done carefully. I am enough of a klutz without pushing the envelope.

Bigsky: Notice in Dusty's pix there is no way to attach a front table extension to the 505-20 tables. The washer prevents the miter gauge from dropping down when 'hyper-extended'. Not as stable as the M5/500 extension, but better than none!

One caveat - when the washer is removed, the bottom outer edges of the washer counterbore can be very uncomfortable when grasped in that area(especially a 'sliding grasp'). Sometimes even with the washer!

It Works!

Using a 1/2" countersink in the washers, and filing the screw down a little so in didn't extend above the bar worked terrrific.

FWIW - I had an old help kit that didn't have the miter bar washer or screw in it. Everything else.

I'm going to put a plug in for the Shopsmith Help Kit. It has all the washers, set screws, etc. to replace those which come up missing or worn other goodies to life make your woodworking easier. It is well worth the money.

Thanks for the details. I'm headed up to my local hardware shop. Old fashioned wooden floors. I've never stumped him yet. We'll see.

I love hardware stores with wood floors. Have you noticed that the more warped and uneven the floorboards are, the better the store is?

And the more reliable, knowledgeable, their employees are as well as their stock of 'older' stuff! Sadly they are a vanishing breed!:(
