I'm looking for somebody in the Long Beach/ Orange County area of Southern Californina who is willing to donate some time to caning a rocking chair. My niece asked me to repair an old rocking chair that is used at her church. I'm willing to repair it, but its the caning in the back and seat that needs repair. I've never done it and don't have time to learn at the moment. She is willing to buy the necessary materials, but I suspect that she doesn't have the cash to pay for a professional. So, if you could lend a hand, it would be great. It goes to a good cause.

Man! I wish I was still in SanDiego! I'd do it. I just did two chairs today! There are 2 kinds of cane seats/backs. One type, has a spline in a groove that holds the cane in place. This type is easy, and my shop charges $75.00 per panel plus materials. The other type, is the hand woven type. We charge around $2.00 a hole. Just count the holes, and that's the cost. This type is a bear, cause you have to weave it through each hole, and go over and under a gajillion times. Once you start, it's best to go till you're done. Some can take 7-8 hours to finish!!! There is a place in Long Beach called Franks Cane and Supply. He may still be in busness, and if he can't do it, I'll bet he knows someone who can. jimsjinx
