ok, I got a few 1/2" squares of wood left over from pen turning.
They are about 2" long, I thought they would make nice earings.
How do you set up the SS to turn 1/2" wood?
use a cup center and a drive center?
TIA

Making earrings should be a fun project. One way would be to use a small faceplate with a wooden disk attached. Mount it on the spindle and press it against a dead center mounted in the tailstock to located the center point. Then drill a hole the diameter of which is slightly smaller than than the scraps of wood you have, drilling about 3/4 of the way through the disk. Then drill all the way through the disk using say a 5/16" bit (you'll use this hole with a dowel later to drive off the piece of wood you turned). Now use a bench chisel to square the larger hole to accept your scraps of wood, making it a tight fit. You could probably use some small strips of paper for shims if needed. Insert the scrap in the hole and use a bead of hot-melt glue around the perimeter of the hole to secure the wood. Take some light cuts with your lathe chisels and it should work fine without any support on the tailstock side of things.

So is jack here the new spammer of the week? Seems like he managed to link to a furniture page in his signature but that is about it for useful information. Could be wrong but it doesn't look good.jacktaylor709 wrote:Hello Friends..............
