Treen Mandrel

Has anyone used this mandrel?

Looks kinda neat.. great for salt and pepper and other small lidded boxes.

The question would be, What is the size of the bore that the tapered mandrel slips into?

If I'm reading the reference material on the Beall web site correctly, it looks like the bore in the mandrel is 5/8". If that's so and the set screw lines up with the taper on the Shopsmith spindle, it would mount directly on a Shopsmith. If the set screw isn't positioned for the Shopsmith, one could simply drill and tap a new set screw hole.

If it fits or is otherwise adaptable to the Shopsmith (a call to Beall would verify that), it looks like a convenient way to make small lidded turnings quickly. No need to hollow them out, simply drill the interior, mount on the mandrel and turn the exterior.

If I were buying it (and I'll give that some thought), I'd get the appropriate drill bit from Beall so it matches the diameter of the mandrel. Getting it elsewhere may not result in as good a fit as shown in the video.

Chester, if you get one or get more information from Beall, let us know how it fits the Shopsmith.

According to JR Beale. It attaches directly to a SS

I have had one of these for about half a year and love it. Yes it slips right on to my MKV like any other SS arbor. It also had an extra set of sleeve to make larger bore bottles. You can be very creative with this little tool and I don't think you will disappointed in it's quality. I have ordered the treen mandrell converter and then looking to get the expander kit that will make a 2" bore.
Watch a few videos on it and it really works just like it shows

I just purchased mine at a local supplier (gotta support them). Had to order the adapter separately but should start making sawdust tomorrow. Got some sapele and some mahogany. will post when complete.

Lived in Owasso for 15 years before moving back to SC. Loved it!

I just want to thank the Forum members for bringing my attention to this product. I went to the website and viewed all three videos, and came away impressed!:)
Just to be on the safe side, I sent an email to the company asking a couple of questions that came to mind. My email was promptly answered to my satisfaction.
Needless to say, I placed my order a few minutes ago.
