New 56' Mark V owner starts rebuild/resto

Post by calstar »

Nice coincidence that a couple of other forum members are starting restoration/rebuilds at this time. This is the first SS I've owned, pretty cool machines, simplicity= elegance. Started on the headstock dis-assembly yesterday. Serial # indicates 56' build. I'll replace bearings and any questionable parts, although everything looks pretty good, new paint too. I'm pleased with the condition of my V, mechanicals better than I expected, especially given the condition of the cord; appears to have relatively new belts, still soft and pliable. I took quite a few pics to help me get it all back together and post as a reference for others. After searching around on the forum I was elated to discover many rebuild pictorials in addition to the Sawdust series(special thanks to Mickyd for his awesome work), so probably wont be posting too many pics in the future since its already been done. Since I have these formatted to size for this forum I decided to post them, redundant as they are. This process may take awhile as I'm also restoring a Walker Turner lathe and a Delta table saw, not to mention life's daily demands! That being said, at this point the Mark V has resto priory.

Keep the pictures coming along with updates of your progress. Don't worry if it's been done before - we love that kind of thing here!
